Australian migration to New Zealand: The tide has turned

flightofthekiwi2Only a few years ago, New Zealand lost around 40,000 of its citizens to Australia every year. However, with the slowing of the Australian economy and improved economic prospects in New Zealand the tide has turned.

The Weekend Australian’s magazine reported about this ‘Revenge of the Kiwi’ (behind a paywall but freely accessible if you search for the headline), which quoted from the ‘Quiet Achievers’ essay published with the Menzies Research Centre. ABC Radio Melbourne interviewed me about the phenomenon this morning:



It is great to see New Zealand making such positive headlines in Australia. It would be even better if Australia learnt a lesson or two from New Zealand’s recent reform successes.
